Stok Kangri, Ladakh

Stok is the highest mountain in the Stok Range of the Himalayas in the Ladakh region of northwest India. The peak is located in Hemis National Park, 12 km southwest of the trailhead at 3,610 meters (11,844 ft) in the village of Stok and around 15 km southwest of the Ladakhi capital of Leh.

Stok Kangri elevation: 6,153 meters, 20,187 ft.

Despite its altitude, Stok Kangri is a popular trekking peak and is often climbed as an initial non-technical foray into high altitude mountaineering. However, Stok Kangri is grossly underestimated for its difficulty level and in particular the need to acclimatize before and during the ascent.
The entire trail incorporates countless ridges, spurs, passes and remote valleys and the constant change in scenery tenders sheer magnificence. On summit day you will traverse a glacier and navigate steep scree to reach the sharp south ridge, leading to an exposed position at the narrow summit.
On a clear day you can see as far as the mighty Karakoram and K2, 220Km to the north west. The memory of summiting Stok will be sure to nurture boundless camaraderie and bring silent tears of joy at the accomplishment.
